Mineral Wells is a great location to get outdoors and get climbing at any level. With mostly top rope routes available, it's an easy first outdoor trip for new climbers, as well as a fun location to practice for more advanced climbers. A small amount of bouldering and lead is available to get an introduction for what outdoor climbing is like. Located in Mineral Wells, Texas, it can be a bit far being towards the west side of Fort Worth, but it's worth the drive.

Information

Mineral Wells is filled with thirty plus routes, most of which are top rope. These routes have already dedicated anchors and some chains, making it good for groups with just the basic gear. The wide range of ratings for the routes ensure there can be something for everyone. The wall are located in a ravine called Penitentiary Hollow. The sandstone walls in the ravine are solid and great to climb, with little worry of breaking rock. Campsites are available inside the park grounds for overnight trips.
