Lake Whitney

lake_whitney_climbing

Lake Whitney is a park area with a short section of boulderable walls. With the walls going higher than most normal boulders, you rely on the water to break your fall. "Deep Water Soloing" is when you climb, without tether, above a source of water. This location may be aimed towards more adventurous climbers, but any could give it a try.

Information

Lake Whitney State Park is a decent location for those climbers looking to get outdoors, while not having to travel far. Even if you finish climbing, there is the rest of the park to explore. With about twelve routes and a variety of ratings, the lake is good for a day trip of climbing. Some of the lower rock can be loose and break off, so make sure you're on solid rock. Adults are $5 to enter the park and children are free. Located in Whitney, Texas, it's not too far for many north Texas climbers.
